Pen & Mug wins braggin’ rights in sports logo design tournament

Pen & Mug’s Austin Schulenburg brought home the gold medal and the braggin’ rights as the first ever champion of the Super Design Bowl July Madness tournament.

His reimagined Hershey Bears logo was chosen by selection committee as one the top 16 winners from Super Design Bowl single matchups in 2023. The fearsome, honey-soaked skater bear then battled through the bracket one matchup at a time, decided by popular vote, and was ultimately crowned the champion!!

Austin’s skating bear logo is a modern take on the original Hershey Bears franchise logo from 1938-2001. The addition of the dripping honey around the bear’s mouth is a nod to Hershey Pennsylvania, a city known for their many sweet treats. The honey drips also help distinguish this bear from the many other “bear” logos out there in the world of sports. The colors stay true to the team’s present day colors, with the addition of an energetic yellow color used for the dripping honey.
