A Lesson Worth (Re)Learning

Writing my first newsletter during the month of Fathers’ Day has me reflecting on what being a dad these past few years has taught me, both personally and professionally.

My kids are 3 years old and 11 months, which means life is filled with moments to observe trial and error in action. Every day is a blur of learning to walk, trying new words, figuring out how things work… and failing. A lot of failing. But what inspires me is how unbothered they are by the failing part. Most of us lose that along the way. Kids just keep going, making micro-adjustments as they go.In Atomic Habits, James Clear writes about the power of getting 1% better each day. Like compound interest, small efforts add up over time. Try. Fail. Do it again—better. Repeat.

Watching my kids reminds me that failure isn’t something to avoid. It’s how we figure stuff out. It’s how we grow. It’s easy to get caught up in doing things the “right” way, or waiting until something feels perfect before putting it out into the world. But perfection doesn’t build momentum. Trying does.

So whether it’s parenting, building a business, or learning something new: I’m reminding myself to just keep going. Stumbling is part of the process. Falling isn’t failing, staying down is.

Whatever you’re working on, building, leading, or learning, you don’t have to have it all figured out. You just have to keep moving.

What I’m Watching

Your Friends and Neighbors — A painfully sharp, dark little character study that somehow still makes me laugh.

Mike Birbiglia: The Good Life — His newest special drops intimate reflections on fatherhood, family, and identity. Deeply personal and quietly hilarious.

What I’m Reading

Perennial Seller by Ryan Holiday — A good kick in the pants reminder that building something timeless takes time, intention, and a lot of patience.

Good Inside by Dr. Becky — Technically a parenting book, but honestly, it’s just great insight into how people work. Feels just as relevant at home as it does at work.

What I’m Listening To

Dungeon Crawler Carl series on Audible — Totally unhinged sci-fi meets game night energy. Somehow smart, ridiculous, and weirdly heartwarming all at once.

Never Enough by Turnstile — High energy, weirdly cathartic, and the perfect soundtrack for getting stuff done (or blowing off steam).
